Newletter 22nd October 2018

This week’s theme is the environment.  As someone with a deep interest in the environment, whether it is out walking or drawing trees, it really annoys me when it is not treated with respect.  I really don’t know what the Scottish Government are doing in allowing this potential environmental disaster waiting to happen. I have no problem with the NC500 as such, but there are a lot of sites of special scientific interest along the coast, especially at Dunnet Head, where I lived for 15 years.  The Directives were not even considered for these projects . They couldn’t have been, as they didn’t even know until two weeks ago where the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency sat in the Government.  It is nothing at all to do with tourism.  I have informed the relevant Minister, and await her response.  HIE were so desperate to raise the profile of Caithness and Sutherland as a tourism destination, they poured money into a project which is, in effect, illegal.   They should have been promoting the use of public transport under sustainable tourism.  Green Tourism think the NC500 is a green project.

Meanwhile, I have been pressing on with the North Highland Way project, for which we cannot get funding, in another way.  I still have some irons in the fire for this.
